  • All three are cash-pay by default, HSA/FSA eligible, and require a "trip sitter" present during dosing.

At-home ketamine therapy is an innovative treatment option for people exploring alternative treatment options for depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Innerwell, Mindbloom, and Better U deliver ketamine straight to your door, eliminating the need for an in-person clinic visit. This article provides a comprehensive breakdown of each service and explores which option suits you best.

Understanding At-Home Ketamine Telehealth

Ketamine is a chemical compound that is traditionally used as an anesthetic, but in recent years has been used as an off-label treatment for psychiatric disorders. These treatments are traditionally done in person under clinical observation; however, for individuals who live in more remote areas or are disabled, going in person can be a significant hurdle. At-home ketamine telehealth brings a version of in-clinic ketamine treatment right to your living room via an oral lozenge or troche.

A typical program begins with an intake appointment to go over your medical history, treatment goals, and develop a personalized plan. For most services, the medication is then shipped to your home with thorough instructions on how to safely self-administer the ketamine.

Depending on the service, remote supervision is available to allow for a provider to virtually monitor you for the duration of treatment. Many of them include integration support to help you process your ketamine experiences and turn them into actionable steps to improve your mental wellbeing.

Innerwell: How it Works, Pros and Cons

Innerwell is a telehealth platform that provides at-home ketamine-assisted psychotherapy services that emerged in 2022. Every plan includes sessions with a Master’s or Doctorate-level therapist, a prescribing clinician, access to eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), and psychedelic integration services.

The Foundation Program includes eight ketamine doses and three clinician meetings to discuss treatment progress. The Extended Program includes twenty-four ketamine doses and five one-on-one clinician meetings designed for more severe or treatment-resistant cases. Both programs ship ketamine as an oral, rapid-dissolve tablet and include access to an online portal with guided exercises.

Innerwell pros:

  • The only major platform billing insurance directly in California and New York with select plans
  • Full psychotherapy bundled into every plan rather than an add-on
  • Intake consults run closer to an hour, longer than most competitors offer
  • The twenty-four-dose Extended Program is the longest single course among the three

Innerwell cons:

  • Thin third-party review footprint: Trustpilot shows roughly a 3.4-star average from a small handful of reviews
  • Insurance is only accepted in two states; nearly everyone else pays cash
  • Some reviewers report the advertised per-session price understates the total once the required clinician visits are factored in
  • Smaller state footprint than Mindbloom

Mindbloom: How it Works, Pros and Cons

Mindbloom is the most established name in the at-home ketamine industry, founded in 2018 by Dylan Benyo, who overcame his own severe PTSD using ketamine treatment. Eligible patients are paired with a dedicated Mindbloom guide, reachable by Zoom or text, who walks them through preparation and integration. Each Bloombox kit comes with an eye mask, an integration journal, a blood pressure monitor, and sublingual ketamine.

Mindbloom offers ten distinct programs for varying therapeutic goals, from burnout to repairing intimacy to recovering from failure and rejection. Clients have unlimited access to Group Integration Circles for peer support.

Mindbloom pros:

  • Widest state coverage of the three, at 38 states covering most of the US population
  • Longest operating history and the largest database of self-reported outcomes
  • Ten goal-specific program tracks, more targeted than a generic protocol
  • Group Integration Circles add peer support that neither competitor offers

Mindbloom cons:

  • Highest sticker price per dose among the three
  • No direct insurance billing; reimbursement depends entirely on your out-of-network benefits
  • The most consistent complaint across BBB and Trustpilot involves subscription billing and difficult canceling

Better U: How it Works, Pros and Cons

Better U leans into a tech-forward, self-guided model built around their Companion App, which bundles breathwork, meditation, and psychedelic education alongside the clinical ketamine program. Patients meet virtually with a clinician to build a personalized treatment plan, then work with a trained integration coach to process each session. Throughout treatment, patients can contact their healthcare team through secure messaging.

The Introduction Package includes five ketamine doses for those newer to symptoms; the Transformation Package includes nine ketamine doses. Both packages are delivered in a Brain Box that includes a blood pressure cuff, app instructions, meditation masks, heart diffraction glasses, a journal, and a pen.

Want to try it? Head over to Better U and get $50 off with “Psycle50” at checkout.

Better U pros:

  • Lowest per-dose cost of the three, especially on the Transformation and extended plans
  • Strongest independent reputation: Trustpilot ratings in the 4.6 to 4.7 range across hundreds of reviews
  • Affirm financing lowers the up-front cost further
  • Companion App bundles education and practices most competitors charge extra for or skip

Better U cons:

  • Fewer doses in the base packages, which may mean upgrading sooner if symptoms are severe
  • No insurance billing, the same limitation Mindbloom has
  • Some users report provider turnover and slower support during high-demand periods
  • App bugs have been reported around payment processing

Which is Better? Best Fit by Reader

There isn’t a straightforward universal winner here. The program you choose depends on what you’re optimizing for.

Best for therapy-led care: Innerwell. They offer bundled psychotherapy and psychiatric oversight. Ideal if you are looking for licensed ketamine assisted talk therapy woven directly into your ketamine sessions rather than purchasing them separately.

Best for budget: Better U. Their per-dose pricing is the lowest of the three services and Affirm financing brings your up-front cost further down.

Best for guided, community-oriented experience: Mindbloom. Their dedicated guide model, ten goal-specific programs, and Group Integration Circles create a more built-in structure and peer support.

A qualified psychiatric clinician can assist you with weighing these tradeoffs against your specific history, budget, treatment goals, and severity of symptoms.

What Users Say: Reviews and Reputation

Here are some independent review platforms that offer a more honest review of each service.

Innerwell

I recently started with innerwell. My first session was last Thursday (200mg). I had an amazing experience! I started around 10:30pm and I took my mask off when I felt like I was done which was 2 hours from the time I put the mask on.

I met with my therapist first thing the next morning and she said that she has never me seen me so calm, relaxed and peacefully happy. I felt like my stress and anxiety had just melted away. I was thinking that I don’t feel like I even need to do it again, like I got exactly what I needed just from one session..

My prescriber told me to do a second session (300mg) one week after my first. So I am going to follow the instructions and do my second session this evening. This time I’m going to write down a different set of questions/intentions and I’m very curious to see how this session differs from the last.

I hope you have a magical journey and find the peace and clarity you seek.- u/Ok-Masterpiece3725 on Reddit.

“I will start with the pros. The therapy did wonders for me. I am doing the 24 session package and after session 15 or so, my suicidal ideation has completely vanished. I don't know how long it will last, but this is the first relief I have felt in 30 years.

The cons are mostly around interactions with the company. I am currently in the process of validating my insurance with them for the 5th time. They tell me it is invalid, I tell them to double check, they say "oops, sorry, we were wrong" and then we move on. The next time I schedule an appointment or need a my next dose sent to me, the process repeats.

Their website has been broken from day 1 and it is impossible to reschedule appointments without opening a support ticket. In the support ticket they tell you that you must cancel within 24 hours of the appointment or they will charge you $100. They then take a couple of days to respond to your request to cancel or reschedule, bringing you withing that 24 hour window, so you get to fight with them about that.

I had some second thoughts before taking my first dose and considered a refund until I learned that I would only get 50% of my money back. That is an insanely steep cancellation policy when you have not yet even started the program. On the up side, it resulted in my going through the program which has been life changing.

All in all, they are a pain in the a** to work with, but the therapy works.” - Mike on Trustpilot

Mindbloom

“I did Mindbloom's initial 6 sessions and it was incredible. Like others said, it was really life changing. I felt like the support and the programs in the app really made it much more beneficial. Longest I was able to go confidently between sessions was 20 days between the 5th and 6th dose. I just signed up for their 18 session pack for returning clients” - u/socialhangxiety on Reddit

Best at home ketamine provider

Mindbloom has made treating my depression so much more accessible. The cost is one factor, but not having to take time off of work and ask someone to drive me to get infusions is a relief. Being able to stay relaxed and journal or talk to my partner after sessions has also been great. My nurse and therapist both listen to me and have helped me get to. The right dose where I get benefit but I’m not groggy the whole day after. I feel heard and helped. There is a very large selection of curated music and guided meditations to choose from depending on your session intention. I also really like the support groups. Previously I carried shame about treatment, but when I was able to talk to others who also use the medicine I felt understood for the first time. I’m so thankful for Mindbloom.” - Elizabeth F on Trustpilot

Better U

Just wanted to share my experience with Better U in case anyone’s been considering at-home ketamine treatment.

I had previously used Mindbloom, but BetterU has been superior by far. What really stands out: • Excellent customer service – You can call and talk to a real human within seconds. • Higher dosing options – They don’t cap you at the low end like some other services. I felt like my treatment was actually tailored to me. • Everything has been smooth, professional, and high-quality.

I’m not usually one to post reviews, but I’ve had such a good experience that I figured it was worth sharing.” - u/Chispita_Cox on Reddit

Better U helped me save my life

Better U gave me the tools to quite literally save my life. Their holistic program's approach is one that made me feel supported in mind, body, & spirit. Each member of the team at Better U is knowledgeable, friendly, and always nonjudgmental. It's so clear this company's #1 goal is providing client security and comfort so that they have the space to do real healing & keep those gains. If you feel like you've run out of places to turn, you haven't ... reach out to Better U :)” - Ashley H on Trustpilot

Cost and Insurance

Better U is the cheapest per dose, Innerwell sits in the middle depending on whether you qualify for its insurance plans, and Mindbloom runs the highest, offset partly by their wider program selection.

Only Innerwell bills insurance directly, but is restricted to California and New York with select plans. Mindbloom and Better U are cash-pay, though both accept HSA/FSA funds and offer payment plans or financing options to soften the upfront cost.

Integration Coaching and Wraparound Care

Integration coaching provides structured guidance through reflective exercises and coping strategies to help patients reinforce positive changes. This process ensures that the therapeutic benefits of ketamine are not isolated experiences, but are integrated into the patient’s broader mental health plan. By fostering this connection, integration coaching minimizes the potential adverse outcomes and enhances the overall effectiveness of the treatment.

Wraparound care complements integration coaching by providing ongoing support through regular check-ins and access to additional mental health resources.

This comprehensive approach ensures continuous monitoring and assistance as patients progress in treatment. Together, integration coaching and wraparound care create a safer, more effective environment for ketamine telehealth, and promote lasting positive outcomes.

When choosing a telehealth service, integration support and wraparound care should be key factors.

Harm Reduction for At-Home Ketamine Use

While telehealth providers offer guidance, supervision, and integration support, it’s essential to have your own support system in place when using ketamine at home. Having a trusted friend, family member, or caregiver nearby can help ensure safety, especially during your first few sessions.

Here are some harm reduction tips for at-home ketamine use:

  • Have Someone Present: Even if your telehealth provider offers remote supervision, it’s safer to have a physically present support person during administration
  • Create a Safe Environment: Choose a calm, comfortable space free of hazards. Remove sharp objects and ensure you can lie down or sit safely
  • Follow Dosage Instructions Carefully: Stick to the exact dose and method recommended by your provider. Do not increase your dose on your own
  • Stay Hydrated and Nourished: Avoid using ketamine on an empty stomach and keep water nearby
  • Avoid Driving or Operating Machinery: Ketamine can impair coordination and perception for several hours after use
  • Plan Integration Time: Allow yourself time afterward to rest, reflect, and journal your experiences before returning to daily activities
  • Monitor Your Mental and Physical State: Track how you feel during and after sessions. Seek professional help if you experience unexpected or intense side effects
  • Avoid Mixing Substances: Do not use alcohol or other drugs alongside ketamine, as this increases the risk of adverse effects

Even with telehealth support, having personal safety measures in place helps ensure a safer, more effective experience.

Prefer a Clinician-led or Insurance-covered Option?

If insurance coverage or in-person clinical supervision matters more to you than convenience, Spravato® and in-clinic ketamine infusions or injections are options that are available. Psycle works with a network of interventional psychiatric clinics offering Spravato, TMS, and in-clinic ketamine, and can help match you with one near you that takes your insurance.
